You're never alone, if you've something to share

The Centre can’t Hold

Things Fall Apart

The giant heavy wheel turns slowly
And I smell fear in the air
And many must make decisions
With no sage to guide them there

The cycle of birth and growth
Is relentless, ruthless and blind
Evolution asks many questions
I can’t answer in my small mind

They’re complacent and blind to change
They pushed too hard and too fast
They allowed the weeds to grow
And now they choke the flowers at last

It’s 100 years, that’s a century
Since the world fell apart
There’s a feeling of something similar
And there’s a feeling of a start

Change is in the nature of things
I cannot control how things unfold
I feel things fall apart again
I feel the centre can’t hold

    • Thanks Paul. Glad you enjoyed it. The line “Things fall apart, the centre can’t hold” is from a wonderful WB Yeats poem wrote 100 years ago as he looked aghast at the changes going on in the world. The world is a much better place now but we’re prone to take 2 steps forward and one back and I can’t help feeling that we are in the throes of stagnating or going back for a while. The question is how long will it last and when going through a dark period you wonder if there will ever be light again. It’s natural I guess. We are in the throes of the Brexit debate here and it’s really hotting up. Looking at your side of the world we are fearful of the rise and rise of Trump and fear for the future of the world if he gets into power.

      • it seems we are ever embroiled in “the times that try men’s souls” – all we can do is hold our courage and stick to our principles
