Fractured Narratives

FracturedNarratives

We argued last night
We tore some things apart
There’s so much anger
There’s fear and pain in our hearts
We need a common reality
Not this fractured one
We cannot communicate
With understanding so far gone

The futures we planned
The narratives we told
Are now fractured and torn
And now Winter brings cold
We look for entertainment
Provocation and distraction
To avoid the future
To huddle in factions

There is a darkness
Hidden deep in us all
Maybe we won’t recognise
Those who make the call
As they unleash it to rise
Like a hungry dog to feed
They will hide in shadows
But they won’t bleed

Something’s fractured,
Something’s cold
In the future we planned
In the narratives we told.

Fake enemies are blamed
In a circus of simple lies
To distract from complex truth
Of complex living on the rise
False gods are raised
In a false future portrayed
Have cake and eat cake
Have blind faith they said.

Something’s fractured,
Something’s cold
In the future we planned
In the narratives we told

Breaking Glass

kiefer-renowned-orders-of-the-night

It’s the sound you hear
That of crashing glass
From your broken bubble
Will this too now pass?

The cold winds of change
The harsh winds of hate
Now threaten your world view
And threaten your fate

With ugly, ignorant intensity
Empty vessels make much sound
Many float on hot, false hopes
I stay lonely on the ground

Blind Faith

Demagogue and Populism

I speak those shallow empty words
Filled with so many lies, I sound absurd
But I accept no responsibility
I use insults and I use attacks as news
As clickbait in social media that I use
I pollute everything with incivility

I’ve undermined what experts say
The rule of law is now my prey
I’m your prophet, listen only to me
I call it fake media and I call it fake news
Cos I wanna own your reality too
I’m your prophet, listen only to me

Have faith, blind faith in me
Have trust, blind trust in me,
I wanna be your reality
Have faith, blind faith in me

My lies keep you divided and confused
I’ve hidden real problems with that ruse
I’m so full of ignorant intensity
I’ve defeated those with passionate conviction
Who used foolish truth instead of fiction
And I don’t care about inequality

Have faith, blind faith in me
Have trust, blind trust in me,
I wanna be your reality
Have faith, blind faith in me

Dark Summer Skies

leave a comment »

Jo Cox B&W

Dark skies, foreboding
No summer sun or rain
I feel the wheel is turning
It’s time for change again
We don’t do it neat
But within the rules we agree
We make blind bets
On our future religiously

Complex Truths, Simple Lies
We don’t want statistics
Have cake, eat cake
Let’s banish pessimists
Unicorns and Sunny uplands
If we take our country back
Let’s blame the Eu
For whatever we lack

Have faith, our faith
We don’t need expert views
Stir emotion, stir fears
Must control all the news
Use Lies, Use untruths
Engage and stir the nation
Stir emotion, stir fears
Over sovereignty and immigration

And then the veil was ripped
By those who knew
And darkness seeped in
And darkness came through
In the noise you got sick
And you fell to the ground
Your pure heart stopped
And silence wrapped round

You were the best of us,
You were the best of us
When your smile danced
You were the best of us,
You were the best of us
We were deeply enhanced

Getup, standup
Gotta stand up for your rights
Evil shall happen while good people
Remain hidden and out of sight
The fragile light of the world
That we’ve built for so long
Needs people who serve right
To fight those who serve wrong

I had a visceral feeling
The grief of a death or divorce
It was punch to the heart
It punched with so much force
It’s done for a generation
It’s a civil war without guns
But I know who they are
I know they are the ones

Elites wore new clothes
Demagogues with a new blend
They polluted the waters
But he’s no fisherman’s friend
Take back, bring back
Lies about democracy and control
They focussed on the 1%
And not the damage to the whole

Ignorance is a choice
Ignorance is a choice
We choose what we do
Ignorance is a choice
Ignorance is a choice
For me and for you
